Dýralæknar Katrin og Helga ehf. is a dynamic and ambitious veterinary practice founded with the goal of providing exceptional care for animals. The team consists of veterinarians Katrin and Helga Björt, supported by Bjarni and Guðbjörg who handle the daily operations and administrative tasks of the business.
Based in the South of Iceland, we offer a wide range of veterinary services for horses, cows, sheeps, and small animals. In addition to general care we specialize in several advanced treatments. Below you will find a detailed description of our services.
We believe in the importance of continuous learning and professional development. Both Katrin and Helga Björt have purchased further education in various fields and in 2024, Helga Björt added chiropractic care to her expertise, making chiropractic treatments for horses and dogs another service we now proudly offer.
We highly value our strong, personal relationships with our clients and are committed to offering both friendly and professional care. Our practice is equipped with modern cars and state of the art equipment, such as ultrasound and an X-ray machine, to ensure that we provide the highest quality of veterinary care.
Katrin is born and raised in Linz, in beautiful Austria. Although she is a city child, she was drawn to the countryside from a young age and has been a great animal lover for as long as she can remember.
Katrin completed her studies in veterinary medicine with a focus on bovine medicine in 2019 at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Vienna, Austria.
Katrin first came to Iceland as a tourist to travel around the country and later as a student to get to know the Icelandic horse in its homeland. After working for three years as a practicing veterinarian at a veterinary clinic in the South, Katrin founded her own veterinary company in 2022, which today is called Dýralæknar Katrin og Helga ehf.

Helga Björt was born and raised in Reykjavík, Iceland. She grew up around horses with her parents and family, going horseback riding and traveling on horseback with family and friends. Animals and the countryside won her heart from a young age.
After completing a diploma degree from the University of Hólar in 2011, Helga Björt moved to Norway where she studied at the University of Veterinary Medicine in Oslo and graduated from there just before Christmas 2017. Since 2018, Helga Björt has been working as a practicing veterinarian in the South of Iceland, and since 2023 Helga Björt is co-owner of Dýralæknar Katrin og Helga ehf.
Helga Björt completed her chiropractic training for horses and dogs at the International Academy of Veterinary Chiropractic in Germany in March 2024.

Bjarni is born and raised in Reykjavík, where he has lived all his life. With extensive experience in various management roles, Bjarni brings a broad skill set to the team.
A lifelong horse enthusiast, he has practiced horseback riding with his family and served as a judge in equestrian sports for several years. As a valued family member, Bjarni provides guidance and advice, supporting the operations with his knowledge and experience.

Guðbjörg was born and raised in Mosfellsbær but now lives in Hella. Growing up with pets, including dogs, cats, birds, and fish, her love for animals has always been a part of her life. Guðbjörg currently owns Mosi, a Standard Poodle from Eyjaból's kennel, which is also owned by Helga Björt. She graduated from NTV as a bookkeeper in the spring of 2017 and earned her Certified Bookkeeper qualification in the fall of the same year.

We offer valuable externship opportunities for veterinary students, allowing them to gain hands-on experience and participate in a wide range of projects within the daily operations of a mixed veterinary practice.
Please note that we are unable to provide housing during the externship, but we are happy to assist in finding suitable accommodation nearby.
